The Wonthaggi Hospital upgrade and redevelopment addresses the projected increase in service demand for inpatient, surgery and emergency services.

The Wonthaggi Hospital upgrade and redevelopment addresses the projected increase in service demand for inpatient, surgery and emergency services. It will ensure the Bass Coast Shire community receive the same standard and access to healthcare as metropolitan communities.

Our role included provided input into the development of the contracts for all three packages, procurement of the contractor, contract administration, defect coordination, and project handover. In addition, we are providing staging, buildability, and program advice. The project provides three new operating theatres, a new procedure room, a new emergency department with an additional 18 treatment spaces, and a new 32-bed inpatient ward with four extra short stay beds.

The improved layout creates a more efficient and safer workplace for staff as well as the capacity to treat 26,000 extra emergency patients each year. The upgrade and redevelopment of the hospital’s facilities is proposed to ensure it is fit-for-purpose and can meet the future healthcare needs of the local community.
