Lakeside Stadium – State Sports Centre
In 2012, the Victorian Government committed more than $60 million to upgrade sports facilities around Albert Park including the State Sports Facilities Centre.
The resulting complex at Lakeside Stadium now serves as Victoria’s home of elite athletes. As Superintendent and Project Director, Ontoit’s Arvind David delivered a world-class athletics track, field facilities and administration centres for Australia’s peak athletics organisations (including the Victorian Institute of Sport, Athletics Australia and State Sports Centre Trust).
Keeping the project on track for success, Ontoit managed multiple stakeholders from Parks Victoria, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, the venue, local and state governments and athletics bodies. Challenges hurdled included site contamination issues, working in an operational venue, upgrading the 1926 heritage grandstand and managing the impact of nearby events such as the Grand Prix.
