State Library Redevelopment

The State Library is one of Melbourne’s earliest institutions that laid the foundations for the dynamic, diverse and prosperous State it is today. Since its establishment in 1854, the State Library has been a place where ideas, learning, culture, and creativity are cultivated and promoted.

The Vision 2020 Project combines the restoration of some of the significant heritage aspects of the State Library with the establishment of new facilities that will modernise the way visitors use the library. Since its establishment in 1854, the State Library has been a place where ideas, learning, culture, and creativity are cultivated and promoted. At the heart of the Vision 2020 Refurbishment Project was the refurbishment of the library’s incomparable heritage spaces, the creation of new innovative spaces for children and teenagers, and the reinvention of library services, with new technologies, digital literacy and creativity for all Victorians.
