Melbourne Park Stage 3 Redevelopment

The third and final stage of Melbourne Park Redevelopment Project will ensure the Australian Open remains at Melbourne Park well into the future.

The Stage 3 redevelopment includes creation of a new outdoor, 5,000 seat show court/multi-purpose arena, additional match courts, a new function and media centre with a 200-seat auditorium, and interview rooms and broadcast studios.

There are additional public spaces and car parks with improved access as well as complete separation between front-of-house and back-of-house operations with the delivery of a logistics hub and new central kitchen.

The redevelopment also sees the transformation of the precinct entries, coupled with the creation of a new front door to the precinct off Olympic Boulevard and re-invigoration of the oval.

Our role

Ontoit was involved in the procurement and delivery of the third phase of the precinct’s redevelopment. Services included, procurement strategy, development of the design brief and tender documentation, leading multiple consultant procurements and tender evaluation processes as well as cost and value management, program management and preparation for participation in HVHR/Gateway Review process as well as practical completion and handover activities.

We managed the design process from concept through to tender documentation (PPRs) for the MC tender acting as the interface between the design team and complex stakeholder groups.

In addition, we successfully managed alignment of the scope to budget from project commencement, driving value management processes and participating in value engineering workshops. On contract award, we led the design team to validate and document these changes within a fast-track design program, to achieve cost savings for the State and its stakeholders.
