Regional Rail Revival Project Upgrades
The $4 billion Regional Rail Revival program is upgrading every regional passenger rail line in Victoria and creating jobs and supplier opportunities.
Ontoit has been working with RPV since 2018 on a number of the upgrade projects.
Warrnambool Line Upgrade
The $250m Warrnambool Line Upgrade will deliver a fifth weekday return service between Warrnambool and Melbourne, improve safety and reliability, and will allow modern VLocity trains to travel on the line for the first time.
Ontoit led the day-to-day client-side management of a D&C package of regional brownfield rail works during the development of Stage 1.
Following the Stage 1 works we were engaged for the development of the Stage 2 works. This included leading the project team through the project development of five key work packages to the delivery phase. We managed the design development ensuring the solution was delivered safely, compliant, met client requirements, and provided the rail operator with an improved and operable rail corridor.
Shepparton Line Upgrade
The $356m Shepparton Line Upgrade (SLU) will improve the quality and reliability on the Shepparton Line to deliver a reduction of 20 minutes for travel between Shepparton and Melbourne and improve the reliability with 10 additional services every week.
Ontoit led the development of the project scope and technical requirements as part of the development phase of the project providing expert advice across railway disciplines and wide ranging levels of stakeholder engagement to deliver the project within tight timeframes.
Gippsland Line Upgrade
The Gippsland Line Upgrade (GLU) project delivers improved train services to the growing communities of Gippsland, enabling VLocity trains to travel to and from Bairnsdale for the first time.
Ontoit developed the complex constructability program for the project. This program development required expertise across all rail disciplines, including experience in project construction, cost estimating, development and commercials.
Murray Basin Rail Project
The $440m Murray Basin Rail Project will significantly improve the capability and reliability of Victoria’s rail freight network, providing the north west region with better, more frequent rail freight services.
Ontoit provided specialist expertise in the development of the project scope and technical requirements for the Murray Basin future stages. Members of our rail team proactively developed and refined the PS&TR to reflect the requirements of the client to deliver the expected benefits forecast in the initial business case. As part of the appointment, we also conducted site visits and surveys to verify the existing information being used by the project team.
