Melbourne Wholesale Markets Relocation Project

Fundamental to Australia’s fresh produce industry and the State’s economic infrastructure the Melbourne Market site has been redeveloped into a modern, innovative and efficent fresh produce trading and distribution precinct.

The project involved the relocation of Melbourne’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market from its original site in West Melbourne to a new site
in Epping. The facility extends over 69 hectares, approx. two and a half times the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), houses 3000
businesses, and is used by 4000 wholesalers, growers and vendors to supply to thousands of retailers.

Providing project management, superintendent and procurement services for this complex, large-scale infrastructure project Ontoit
was responsible for the transaction management, construction management and the operational aspects of the new market. Additionally, our team oversaw the closure of the existing market and the logistics related to transitioning approximately 600 direct businesses and 3,000 indirect businesses.
