Melbourne Park Stage 3 Redevelopment

The third and final stage of the Melbourne Park Redevelopment is a critical investment to ensure that the Australian Open continues to thrive at its iconic home. Recognising the need to elevate the fan and player experience, the project delivers a 5,000-seat outdoor show court and multi-purpose arena, along with additional match courts, enhanced public spaces, and improved access throughout the precinct.

A new function and media centre, equipped with a 200-seat auditorium, interview rooms, and broadcast studios, enhances operational efficiency for media coverage. The redevelopment also focuses on logistics, providing a seamless flow between front-of-house and back-of-house operations, ensuring smooth event management for years to come.

Our Role

Ontoit supported Development Victoria throughout the procurement and delivery process, ensuring the project was completed on time and within budget. Our role involved shaping the procurement strategy, developing the design brief, managing multiple consultant procurements, and overseeing tender evaluation. We acted as the key interface between the design team and various stakeholder groups, ensuring the client’s objectives were consistently met. Through the introduction of an open and transparent design process, whereby stakeholders are placed at the centre of the design, Ontoit was able to get real-time input and feedback on the consultant’s design proposals. This enabled us to respond quickly to requirements and meet the extremely tight timeframe.

Outcomes

The successful completion of the Melbourne Park Stage 3 Redevelopment has cemented the venue’s status as a premier location for international events, including the Australian Open. The new show court and multi-purpose arena have significantly improved the player and spectator experience, while the additional match courts and enhanced facilities cater to the growing demands of the tournament. The introduction of a logistics hub has streamlined operations, and the transformation of public spaces has enriched the visitor experience.
