City to the Lake

City to the Lake is a visionary idea to transform Canberra’s city centre and enhance its significance as the National Capital.

The long-term City to the Lake project was originally created to outline the framework for the development of the southern parts of the CBD, providing a world-class urban waterfront precinct; extending the city centre towards Lake Burley Griffin and connecting it to its central parklands. It will extend the city towards Lake Burley Griffin, connecting it to its central parklands. Our team carried out a feasibility assessment of the overall master plan.

This transformational project for Canberra was proposed to become one of Australia’s largest urban renewal projects. Originally conceived
as a program that includes high value residential, retail, commercial developments, a stadium, an aquatic facility, a convention centre, and
associated infrastructure for the total program. Ontoit carried out a feasibility assessment of the overall master plan and provided an implementation plan for the long- term development of the entire precinct. The implementation plan identified the steps required to progress the priority elements of the program, and outlined the approach and processes adopted by Ontoit in identifying potential risks for this complex project (with its interdependencies and interactions between project elements and stakeholders, and the significant project time-frame of 25 years).
