Bunjil Wellbeing Place

The New Medical Facility Project is a flag ship capital project for BDAC and the Aboriginal Community. The project reflects, in addition to its functional operational use, the spirit and embodiment of the community.

The two-storey healthcare facility includes consulting rooms, allied health rooms, interview rooms, a dental consultation space, treatment bay, pathology room and drop-off ambulance area. In addition to more treatment spaces, the new purpose-built facility also includes a community welcome room, community area, kids play area, staff room, meeting rooms and more than 70 workspaces.

OUR ROLE

Our team provided project and design management and superintendency services across the entirety of the Mixed Health project from design through to construction completion. We are the key day-to-day contacts on the project for BDAC, consultants, and contractors and are responsible for the management of the consultant and contractor teams.

In the Design Management Phase, Ontoit managed the consultant design team to develop the design in accordance with the objectives, program and budget. We ensured that the facility incorporated spaces for traditional healing, community gatherings, and culturally appropriate health services.

This project implemented a targeted social procurement strategy, prioritising Aboriginal-owned businesses and suppliers employing Aboriginal people through the RFT process. This resulted in 20.5% of total contract spend directed to Aboriginal businesses, exceeding the initial 20% target.

With BDAC we delivered the facility to specification, budget, on time, and in a way that meets both clinical and Aboriginal community needs.
