Sydney Metro

Sydney Metro is Australia’s largest urban rail infrastructure investment which will revolutionise the way people move around Sydney and significantly slash travel times. The program comprises four separate projects: Northwest, City and Southwest, West, and Western Sydney Airport line.

Ontoit has been involved in program since 2019 having undertaken the following roles.

Rail Infrastructure PMO Services

Our people have held specialist roles with Sydney Metro providing PMO services across Northwest, City and Southwest, West and Western Sydney Airport, including key enabling works relating to the relocation of the Sydney Speedway that impacted the Metro West Maintenance Facility site.

The specialist services included project scheduling, project controls, risk analysis (QSRA), digital PMO capability program, rail operations advice, commercial management, digital engineering / 4D BIM, interface management and program optimisation. Our senior planning managers have been responsible for leading workstreams in line-wide systems and Trains Systems Maintenance and Operations (TSMO) on Metro West.

Western Sydney Airport

New metro rail will become the transport support for Greater Western Sydney, connecting communities and travellers with the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and the surrounding region.

The 23 kilometre new railway will link residential areas with the new Aerotropolis and connect travellers from the airport to the rest of Sydney’s public transport infrastructure. It will provide a major economic stimulus for Western Sydney and create more than 14,000 jobs during construction.

We were engaged for the final business case phase of the project’s development. This included managing and defining the key aspects of the new metro line’s concept operations, shaping the analysis to form project options and facilitating their appraisal. We also led the analysis on the project’s operating hours, service plan requirements, travel times, high-level rolling stock specifications, maintenance strategy and stabling requirements.

Ontoit represented Sydney Metro through the governance framework, stakeholder engagement process and was responsible for gaining stakeholder buy-in for the final project options.
