Our team at Ontoit had the privilege of volunteering at St Mary’s House of Welcome – a Melbourne-based charity dedicated to supporting the homeless and those facing extreme hardship. This incredible organisation provides vital care for individuals dealing with poverty, severe mental health challenges, isolation, and social marginalization.
As volunteers, we hosted a barbecue, offering those in need a chance to enjoy a hot meal and engage in meaningful conversations. Through listening to their stories, we forged a deeper connection with the community.
Founded by the Daughters of Charity on May 30, 1960, the House of Welcome began as a sanctuary for homeless and disadvantaged men in Fitzroy. Today, inspired by the same compassionate spirit, the organization continues to offer hope, safe spaces, and practical solutions to hundreds of Melbourne’s chronically homeless and vulnerable. The experience was a humbling reminder of the power of small acts of kindness, especially during times of widespread difficulty.
